The story
The Carl Nielsen Masterclass has for the last 8 years been a very successful event in Assens, Denmark – as an arrangement for orchestra and chamber music. The Carl Nielsen Masterclass in Assens 2013 will be for Sinfonietta and chamber music. We expect between 40 and 50 participants from Denmark, Scandinavia, Europe and China.

The aim
• To live and play together to form a professional orchestra of international standard.
• To rehearse for a week under the baton of an internationally renowned conductor.
• To practice and perform under the personal supervision of principal orchestral players and professors.
• To create a chamber group and prepare a chamber piece for performance.
• To perform – and record – that programme in a concert series.

The time
The masterclass will take place from Saturday 12th with ;inal concerts on Saturday 19th of October, 2013. Departure will be on Sunday 20th.

The entry requirements
Participants should be 15 to 25 years of age. To secure a high level on the CNM and guarantee that – particularly in the chamber music groups – you will be in a group of your own level you are requested to fill in the Application form.

The fee
The fee is 270 Euro (DKK 2.000) per person. This covers board and lodging, participating in the masterclasses, musical scores and transport to concert venues. It does not cover transport to Assens. There may be bursaries available for participants from outside Denmark (see application form).

The place
On the west coast of the island Funen is the little town Assens – the hometown of the well-known Danish composer Jacob Gade – which again will be the venue for the Carl Nielsen Masterclass 2013. You will be staying at the cosy youth hostel and the music activities will take place at ”Tobaksgården” (the culture house in the main street few minutes away).
