History

Since 2005, the Carl Nielsen Master Class has been a very successful event in Assens, Denmark, as an arrangement for string orchestra and chamber music.
In 2010 we introduced a master class for strings and wood winds, which made the Carl Nielsen Master Class in Assens the biggest ever with 46 participants.

In April 2011, 27 talented music students from Denmark participated in the Carl Nielsen Master Class in Guangzhou, China, as part of the 1st international festival of Contemporary Danish Music in collaboration with the Xinghai Conservatory. This is planned to be the first of several international master classes during the next decade.

The Carl Nielsen Master Class have performed with string orchestra in 2009 as well as sinfonietta in 2010 and 2012, and even in a full symphony orchestra in China 2011 and upcoming in Estonia in 2013. This will also take place in Denmark in 2015 on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Carl Nielsen!

The Carl Nielsen Master Class has performed with soloists (string players, accordion and even a whistler!) as well as commissioned works.

Not only has the master class attracted foreign students from several countries such as Scandinavia, Great Britain, Holland, Spain, Greece, Estonia, Russia, the United States and even China, but our conductors and tutors also have an international reputation.

During the first couple of years, the master class was mainly focused on orchestral work as well as some chamber music.
However, in 2012 the focus has moved towards a balance between chamber music, orchestral work and solo coaching.
