Tutors

The Tutors for this years masterclass are:

Niels Ullner (DK), Cello.

Niels Ullner was a private student of prof. Asger Lund Christiansen and made his further studies abroad with Pierre Fournier, William Pleeth and Mstislav Rostropovitj a.o.

He was employed in The Danish Radio Orchestra from 1977, but from 1985 he is 1. solo cellist in Malmö Symphony Orchestra.

Niels Ullner is also a busy chamber musician, soloist and teacher. Since his employment as docent with Danish National Academy of Music in 2000 he has succeeded  in building up a class at the highest level. In 2010 he was announced professor at Danish National Academy of Music with responsibility for the cello teaching and for organizing the orchestral education.

Further more Niels Ullner is often requested for masterclasses and as a jury member in Denmark and abroad.

Henrik Hallén (SE), French horn. 

Henrik Hallén is a trained brass pedagogue, specializing in the French Horn. In December 1975, after finishing his studies in Piteå and Stockholm, Henrik joined the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, and in 1996 became the section-leader and solo-horn. He frequently plays with other orchestras throughout Scandinavia, and has even appeared as a soloist. Henrik has worked with many chamber ensembles, in different configurations. Since 1992, Henrik as been the French Horn teacher at the Malmö Musikhögskolan.

 

Christian Stene(NO), clarinet.

Christian Stene is the solo clarinet with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. He is lector at the Grieg Academy in Bergen, Buffet and Vandoren artist and the Norwegian representative for ICA (International Clarinet Association)

Christian is born in Bergen and initiated his studies at The Grieg Academy of Music in Bergen with George Pieterson. His further studies include The Royal Danish Academy of Music with Lee Morgan and University of Southern California with the famous pedagogue Yehuda Gilad. Christian had his debut from The Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2007 with the maximum grade.

In 1998 Christian won the Norwegian Competition for soloists which was the beginning of a long series of assignments as a soloist. He has performed as a soloist with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, The Norwegian National Opera Orchestra, Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, ARCO Chamber Orchestra, the orchestra of The Royal Danish Academy of Music and Nordiska Ungdomsorkestern.

Christian often performs as guest solo clarinetist with different orchestras in Scandinavia, Europe and Asia. He is also an active chamber musician with an interest for historically informed performance and playing original instruments. In addition to his studio at the Grieg Academy Christian often gives masterclasses in Norway and abroad.

 

Rafael Altino(BRA/DK) Bratsch

Rafael Altino is born in Brazil but lives in Denmark where he is the principal viola with Odense Symphony Orchestra and teaches viola at Danish National Academy of Music.

At 17 Rafael moved to USA to study. He has a master degree from The Julliard School of Music and has played a season with the New York Symphony.

He has at more occations been a soloist with his orchestra and has premiered a number of pieces for viola. He is also a busy chamber musician throughout Denmark and Brazil.

 

Amalie Elmark (DK) violin

We are happy to welcome back Amalie to this years masterclass where she will be concert master, do group rehearsals and chambermusic.

Amalie is one of the foremost Danish talents at the moment. She is born in Denmark and educated from The Juilliard School in New York under the tutelage of Stephen Clapp and from Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien with Gerhard Schulz. Master classes with Nicola Benedetti, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Boris Kushnir and Alexander Sitkovetzky. She is the recipient of numerous prizes and scholarships (amongst others from The Foundation of the Danish Radio Orchestra, Augustinus Foundation, Politiken Foundation) and a prize winner at multiple competitions. Amongst others, she holds the 1st prize of the Jacob Gade Competition and Gold Medal of the Music Competition of the national newspaper Berlingske Tidende and received the Music Prize of the Van-Hauen Foundation for her interpretation of the Beethoven Violin Concerto.

She has appeared in Carnegie Hall as a member of The Juilliard Orchestra and most of the Danish concert venues as a soloist as well as a chamber musician. Collaborations with, amongst others, pianist Helmuth Deutsch and violinist Joseph Swensen. As a soloist, Amalie has performed with a series of the Danish orchestras, such as The Amadeus Ensemble, Dusika Symphony Orchestra, and The Danish Youth Ensemble.

Arne Balk Møller (DK) violin

Arne Balk-Møller (violin) er uddannet i København hos Milan Vitek og ved Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst i Wien hos Ernst Kovacic. Han har været solospiller i Det Kgl. Kapel samt gæstekoncertmester i Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie. Arne Balk-Møller har gjort sig særligt gældende inden for kammermusik og har spillet over det meste af Europa og medvirket store festivaler som Salzburg Festspiele, Lockenhaus Festspiele og Bergen Festspil m.fl. Arne Balk-Møller har udgivet talrige internationalt roste CD’er og har modtaget flere priser, bl.a. Deutscher Schallplattenpreis. Ligeledes har han virket som dirigent for flere af landsdelsorkestrene og på Den Fynske Opera samt ledet kammerorkestre i ind- og udland.

 

 

 

 

Visiting musicians for masterclasses:

Henrik Goldschmidt (DK) oboe

 

Henrik is one of Denmarks foremost musicians and an innovative teacher. He is solo oboe with the Royal Danish Orchestra, cofounder of The Middel East Peace Orchestra, founder of The Goldschmidt Music Academy.

 

 

Mette Hanskov (DK) contrabass

Mette is 1. solo bass player with The Royal Danish Orchestra and teacher at The Danish National Academy of Music.

 

 

 

 

Rune Most (DK) flute

Rune is principal flute with Odense Symphony Orchestra and teaches at the Danish National Academy of Music.
