Since the beginning of the Carl Nielsen Master Class, the international aspect has played an important role. The world famous Funen writer Hans Christian Andersen had the motto: “To travel is to live” and the Carl Nielsen Master Class has always related the Danish music education and performance scene to that international aspect.
Most of the master classes have taken place in Assens (Funen, Denmark). Over the years, the young, talented students have performed old and new music from an international repertoire and Danish/Scandinavian composers. This year the main composers will be Mozart and Carl Nielsen.
The Carl Nielsen Master Class have performed with string orchestra in 2009 as well as sinfonietta, in 2010 and 2012, and even in a full symphony orchestra in China 2011. This will also take place this year in Estonia (2013) and in Denmark in 2015 on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Carl Nielsen!
The Carl Nielsen Master Class has performed with soloists (string players, accordion and even a whistler!) as well as commissioned works.
Not only has the master class attracted foreign students from several countries such as Scandinavia, Great Britain, Holland, Spain, Greece, Estonia, Russia, the United States and even China, but our conductors and tutors also have an international reputation.
Thanks to more and more contacts and exchange with internationally renowned music education institutions, the master class has been able to organise not only courses in Denmark (Assens), but also in China in Guangzhou 2011 and coming up in Tallinn, Estonia in 2013. This leads up to the Carl Nielsen celebration in 2015.
